Julie Johnstone, Governor

Julie joined the council in 1984 and, over the years, has worked in various locations and departments before joining Children’s Services 8 years ago. She is currently an Education Inclusion Officer, which is a very demanding role and involves working with schools and children often with challenging needs along with their parents/carers with varying levels of complexity. They are also responsible for issuing penalty notices for non-attenders, which can escalate to prosecution if not paid. She also works with Children In Care (CIC) to ensure they have a robust pupil education plan in place. Whilst it can be challenging it is equally very rewarding and Julie acknowledges she still has things to learn 8 years down the line.

Kirsty Taylor, Safeguarding Governor

Kirsty is currently Divisional Senior Clinical Lead with East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), having spent  18 years in total within the Ambulance Service,  16 of these as a qualified Paramedic. In her current role, she is responsible for establishing and embedding a supportive, motivational, and compassionate leadership culture across station based operational teams.

She is also NARU Operational Commander and EMAS Tactical Commander.

In her time with the Ambulance Service, Kirsty has become very familiar with safeguarding requirements based on the potential vulnerability of all patients (and family) and the need for robust systems. She follows the EMAS ‘Think Family’ safeguarding approach.
